In the family of harmful malware, there are the dreaded viruses that constantly replicate themselves within the computer, network, and removable devices and there are the destructive trojan horses that are cleverly disguised as programs, but do harmful changes to your computer or delete critical system files. There are also files that are considered both trojan horses and viruses making them difficult to detect and delete. Deleting these trojan horse viruses require the best software available combined with a few technical skills as well.
Find any Trojan Horse Viruses Present in Memory
Deleting these trojan horse viruses can be a real pain because there is no single method in getting rid of all of them. The main process that differs is tracking the location of the trojan. It can be running anywhere in your system including in your “Recycle Bin”.
An easy way to find any running trojan horse viruses is to load your “Task Manager” by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and clicking the “Processes” tab. Close all possible running programs aside from the “Task Manager” to make the list of running processes as short as possible so you can find any suspicious programs running. Sort the list of running processes by name and closely inspect each file name. If the process is suspicious, try searching for the file name using the “Search” and then end the process and put it in the “Recycle Bin”. It should be in the “Recycle Bin” just in case you delete a legitimate file and need to restore it later.
Some trojans disable the “Task Manager” to make them difficult to detect, but often times, they forget to disable the “System Information” tool, which can also monitor processes. Load up your “Run” box and type “msinfo32” to load “System Information”. Then expand the “Software Environment” option tree and select “Running Tasks”. You should see a list of processes complete with their path so you don’t have to search.
Use a Virus Scanner
When you finally found the trojan virus that you are looking for, now you need to figure out how to remove a trojan horse virus. Standard deletion methods may not work so you may need an anti-virus solution to do the job. After installing a good virus scanner, right click the file that you think is infected and execute the scanning option. To ensure that all trojan horses are removed from the system, do a complete scan for viruses and make sure each infected file is either cleaned or deleted.
There might be times where the virus is preventing you from installing or using the virus scanner. You can bypass it by booting into “Safe Mode” and running the anti-virus from there.
Use a Removal Tool
Removal tools are usually freeware programs that are designed to remove well-known viruses and trojans. Some removal tools like the “Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool” can remove many known viruses while others are virus specific. Identify the virus or trojan by researching online based on the suspicious file names or activity made and then search for any removal tool that can handle it. The removal tool should be highly accurate in completely getting rid of the trojan horse virus.
Removing a trojan horse virus isn’t a walk in the park. If you don’t want to do these steps ever again, install a virus scanner and enable its live protection features to prevent trojan horse viruses from entering your system.
